Hi there, my name is Courtney and I’m an aspiring neutrino astrophysicist (particle physicist, less specifically), writer, editor, programmer and all-round science fangirl.

I started studying Theoretical Physics at Imperial College London in 2009 and am currently taking time out of my studies.

My 2008 Nuffield Bursary project “Listening For Ghost Particles: The Acoustic Cosmic Ray Neutrino Experiment” won me prizes at the 2009 Big Bang Fair and EU Contest for Young Scientists, the latter a trip to CERN.

I’ve completed work experience placements at the University of Sheffield (twice) and the Rutherford Appleton Laboratory.

I’m an Ignition* Creative Spark, British Science Association CREST alumnus, STEM Ambassador and member of the Association of British Science Writers.

I’ve written for E&T Education, IOP Interactions, Symmetry, Young Scientists Journal, Science in School and the Imperial College Student Blogs, and been interviewed for the Nuffield Foundation website, Navigator, the CERN Bulletin and the Lincolnshire Echo.

I am the editor of the British Science Association CREST Alumni Newsletter and have given presentations ranging from the opening of a Lab_13 to the 2010 National CREST Co-ordinators Conference.

I have experience of HTML, CSS, PHP, Javascript, WordPress, C, C++, Matlab, ROOT, Adobe InDesign and Illustrator, as well as dabbling in Linux. I was awarded the Gloucester Research Prize in 2010 for my first year computing lab and project (on modelling the chaotic motion of an asteroid) and I’m always looking to improve my currently novice coding skills.

My main interests are: particle (astro)physics, specifically neutrinos; science communication, particularly through the use of writing and new media; and trying to show people that the last thing science could be called is dull.

My other interests include attempting to write fiction, reading anything with words on it, playing the violin poorly, volunteering for organisations entirely unrelated to anything else I do, and campaigning for Amnesty International.

If you’d like to contact me, please leave on any of my posts or pages, or email me at c[at]courtneywilliams[dot]co[dot]uk (I’m sure you know what to do with that). Thank you for dropping by!
